Christian Lombard Interview

After I did the Chris Martin Q and A , I really wanted to do another so I asked Christian if he would be interested. Certainly enough, he said yes. Here's six questions with the prized Irish recruit.

I know Chris Martin has been recruiting other recruits to come to Notre Dame like Kendall Moore. Is there any recruits you are trying make go to ND?

I’ve been talking mostly to Chance Carter on and off. Just trying to build a relationship.

How close are you to the Coaches at ND? Which ones? and Hows your relationship with Coach Weis?

I have a really good relationship with Coach Ianello. He’s been there since step one with me. Also I’m talking to Coach Verducci and building a relationship. Coach Weis played a big role in me committing. He was very understanding and helped me through the process.

What was the main reason why you committed to ND?

They made me feel comfortable and apart of their family even before I committed. Also the education was a very strong selling point for me.

Which NFL player do you model yourself after? Why?

I would have to say Joe Thomas. I am pretty athletic like him and a very hard worker.

How do you think you will make an impact your freshamn year?

I know it’s going to be a tough transition from high school to college but I think if I work hard enough, I could earn a spot. Like Chris (Martin) said, I don’t expect anything to be given to me.

Are you going to enroll early in the spring?

No. I’m going to enjoy my last year of high school.

Thank you for your time Christian. It is much appreciated.

My next Q and A will be with Irish commit Kendall Moore. Some other Q and A's in the future will be Justin McCay and Bennet Jackson.

ESPN Gives Irish and Chris Martin No Love

Today ESPN came out with their first ESPN rankings for the 2010 class. In the first ESPN 2010 college recruiting rankings in their top 150 they put Irish commit Chris Martin at 146. Chris Martin was already named to the 2010 high school army all american game and other recruiting sites rivals.com and scout.com both gave Chris Martin a 5 star rating. Rivals.com has Chris at number 13 and the best weakside defensive end. Scout.com gives Chris a little more love and has Chris at number 6 and the best overall defensive end in the nation. Chris said a few words about it earlier and showed he was very angry at it and he is just going to ignore it. He was mostly mad because he thinks espn is saying he is an ok player, and pretty much everyone knows he is one of the best high school players in the nation.

I was talking to Utah commit Kenneth Scott about the new ESPN rankings earlier. He also was very angry about his ranking. ESPN put Kenneth has the #91 wide receiver in the nation. I mentioned to Kenneth about how Chris is number 146. Kenneth said " Woow chris at 146???  He's one of the best DE/LB ive seen. . . .  Sheeesh they are trippin' bigtime". I have just always valued Rivals and Scout.com's opinions more.

By the way Chris was also the only Irish commit in the ESPN 150.
