Notre Dame heading into Big East play

Notre Dame going into Big East is not in the best shape but they are in good shape. Notre didn't play has good as they should've in non-conference but they got through it with only two losses to Ohio State and UNC. There are a few things Notre Dame has to do to be successful in the Big East.

- Establish another big man. Notre Dame bases its team around Luke Harangody and thats a good idea. Notre Dame just has to establish another big man in the paint to take the pressure and the double teams off Harangody. Last year ND had Rob Kurz to take some pressure off and more teams were unaware of THE GODY. There are a few people in mind that could take off pressure down low.

  • Zach Hillesland the senior starter at power forward. He has not been very productive this year only averaging 6.3 points a game and 6.2 rebounds a game. But with his body size (6-9 and 233 pounds) and with his individual skills i think he can at least take off some pressure down.
  • Luke Zeller former McDonalds high school  all-american (he is a bust). Zeller could take some pressure off with his height and ability to shoot the 3. But he is just not nearly physical enough to match up against the big east powers like Dajaun Blair (pitt), Jeff Adrian and Hasheem Thabeet (Uconn), Greg Monroe (Georgetown), and many more.

- More consistent shooting. The second game the Irish lost this year was against Ohio State, during that game the irish were 36% from the field and 38% from three. While McAlarney and Ayers were a combined 3-13 (23%) from 3 and them combined are 80-170 (47%) from three this year.

- DEFENSE clap clap DEFENSE. The Irish really need to pick up if they want to contend for a big east title. Early this year I am sure you remember the Hawaii Invitiational championship against UNC. Harangody couldn't stop Hansbrough to save his life and Tory Jackson couldnt' keep up and in front of Lawson. Their points against average isnt bad so far but that because they have only played two good teams texas got 80 points and UNC got 102.

Overall in the Big East i see the Irish finishing 3rd or 4th.

Jimmy Clausen starts 2009 & 2010 Heisman campaign

Jimmy Clausen had what people like to say his "coming out party" last night instead I think he just announced he would be campaigning for the 2009 and 2010 Heisman trophies by lighting up the Hawaii defense. With the teams Notre Dame will play next year Jimmy has the skills and players around him to make a run at the Heisman trophy.

I think he will have a year like Brady Quinn's had in his junior year. Brady had one of the best seasons ever for a Notre Dame QB by setting 15 records which inlcude touchdown passes (32), passer rating (158.4), and passing yards (3919). Brady did come up just short in the Heisman race behind college greats Reggie Bush, Vince Young, and Matt Leinart. Brady Quinn had arguably a better year then all of those guys.

Clausen has had better stats his Freshman and sophomore than Quinn did. Clausen has had better passing percentages both years.

By watching Jimmy Clausen against Hawaii we have all seen he has the skills to be as good has  anyone if not better than anyone in college football. Yeah yeah..I know Notre Dame was playing Hawaii but all of his throws were right on target, right on stride.

The Hawaii head coach Greg McMakin had some things to say about clausen. “Clausen was accurate as I’ve ever seen” and he also said “He could have beaten a lot of people today. He’s going to be a Heisman Trophy guy.”

The Wait is Over -- Notre Dame ends bowl drought

The wait for Notre Dame to win a bowl game has ended. Notre Dame defeated the Hawai'i Warriors last night 49-21. The Irish were led by the highly touted sophomore Jimmy Clausen. Clausen threw for 401 yards, 5 touchdowns, and completed 22 of 26 passes. After getting kicked out of the Metropolitan Grill bar area and forced to watch the game in the cold outside looking through a window inside the bar. I think Jimmy Clausen found his go to receiver for the last two years of his Irish career and that man is named Golden Tate. Jimmy and Golden hooked up for not two but three touchdowns. Golden caught two long bombs for 40 yards and 69 yards.

By watching the game last night and seeing all of the Irish underclassmen step up I can promise you irish fans that we will not be in the waiting room to win another bowl game for long.
